App Privacy
Clarity app privacy policy. Effective 8 October 2026. Clarity 1.0.0 is a free local Markdown app for Mac, published by Allinop Ltd. Clarity is a trading style of Allinop Ltd. No Clarity account, subscription or in-app purchase is required.
Your documents
Documents are ordinary Markdown files in locations you choose. Creating a standalone document asks for its name and location; creating inside a project uses that folder. Opening or importing a folder does not upload its contents. A local catalogue and workspace remember locations, granted access, tabs and reading positions. Preferences stay on your Mac.
Images
Inserted images are copied into a local .clarity-assets folder beside the document. Original image bytes, including embedded metadata, are preserved. Moving or saving a document elsewhere copies referenced local assets when needed. Unused copies are retained to protect other documents and Undo history. Remote image addresses may remain in Markdown but are not automatically downloaded.
Document notes
Notes are separate local Markdown files in Clarity’s application support storage, not part of the document body. Clarity also keeps note drafts, prior contents and deleted-note recovery copies to protect unfinished work. These copies have no automatic age expiry. Export can include current notes when you choose that option. Notes do not automatically travel with a document copied in Finder.
History and recovery
History stores captured Markdown versions in a local database on this Mac. Automatic versions normally expire after 30 days or 200 versions per document, within a 500 MB History budget. Saved or named versions and unresolved restore records are protected from automatic cleanup. History does not sync between Macs or store separate image contents.
Recovery records may contain unfinished writing. A verified save removes the corresponding document recovery record only when no newer unsaved edits remain. Unreadable records are preserved. Recovered writing opens separately without automatically replacing its source.
While creating or switching documents, Clarity briefly holds input delivered to its window. If delivery cannot be confirmed, local recovery records may retain typed characters, key codes, modifiers, timing, document identity and an error description. These input records have no automatic expiry and an ordinary save does not remove them.
Information outside Clarity
Clarity has no advertising, analytics or developer-operated document upload service. It does not send your writing, notes, History or recovery records to the developer. There is no built-in cloud-sync service. If you choose an iCloud Drive or other provider-managed folder, that provider handles synchronisation under its own policies.
Links you choose to open go to your default browser or another appropriate Mac app. Those apps and destination sites apply their own policies. Spelling uses native macOS services and your selected language policy. Apple handles App Store downloads and diagnostic sharing you enable in macOS under Apple’s policies.
Your control
Closing tabs or removing a project from the sidebar leaves its Finder files untouched. Explicit Delete Document and Delete Project commands move the selected file or whole project folder to the Mac’s Trash after confirmation. Clearing a note removes it from current Notes views, but retained recovery copies may remain. Deleting a document or uninstalling the app does not promise to erase every local note, version or recovery record. Back up or export the material you want before removing app data. Contact support for help locating retained data; do not delete it while recovering work.
